Not everyone is coachable. A mentor teaches about this in his “Star-Turkey” lecture: superstars who aren’t well liked don’t make the best candidates for coaching – you’ll never be able to coach out the attitude until that person decides they want to change, and certainly not before they’re open to being coached.
To be coachable means that you have a willingness to be humble and honest with yourself and others. You have a desire to learn. With that foundation comes discipline to stick with what it will take to make a change that is important to you; with that comes the courage to try–and maybe fail, but to try again–and the confidence that you WILL have a different impact.
Coaching works when you’re ready to work with it. Are you ready?
